Roberts have recently added to their expansive DAB radio range with this new micro system that also plays CDs and digital music from an SD card. Called the Roberts Sound 24, presumably becasuse of the functional alarm clock features it possesses. But this would be a very expensive clock radio if that's why you bought it. But as a stylish DAB radio perhaps it works.
The list of features for this new Roberts DAB radio is certainly extensive, but the market for DAB radios is now very crowded and you would have thought that a new entrant would have to be something special to compete with existing offers from Pure, Intempo and Roberts themselves, who already produce a big range of DAB radios.
The Roberts Sound 24 or MP-24 as they call it, is an all-rounder and would be well suited for a kitchen or bedroom where convenience is required and demands on sound quality are not too high.
Another feature touted by Roberts as unique is the Bookmark facility, which allows you to return to the exact point of a CD or MP3 file you were listening to when you turned off last time. OK sounds good but to us that sounds like scrambling for product differentiation for the sake of it. Not something most people would need - how about adding something actually useful like "Pause live Radio" ( a feature of the now rare Portal DAB radios of a couple of years back) or the ability to record to SD card - a feature of some Pure models?
Price - still new and priced at £200 but that seems expensive when you consider you can get the brilliant NAD C715 micro system (without speakers) for £290.
